Vision Update

It’s been 3 years, to the month (April 2018), that I started losing vision in my right eye (after losing vision in my left eye). I had migraines like I’d never had before, optometrists gave me steroid drops and told me to cut back on computer work, and I was given no answers as to why this was happening.

It took four doctors to find out that (1) I did not have a brain tumor, (2) I did not have MS, and (3) they did not know what I had. Later, I was diagnosed with atypical optic neurosis, which is a blanket statement for “problems with the optic nerve that we can’t explain.”
There was no treatment recommended other than to see a specialist in Cincinnati. He kept an eye (no pun intended) on my condition and took vision tests every time I visited.

Y’all, my vision was so bad that I couldn’t drive myself anywhere. Looking side to side (without moving my head) caused so much pain that I eventually just couldn’t do it. Ibuprofen and pain meds barely touched the migraines. When I would go shopping with Mat, I would have to hold on to his arm to keep from bumping into things. One time I thought I was talking to him and, nope, it was some stranger that had walked into my very short line of vision. 🤦‍♀️

I went hard into altering my diet, resting regularly and for the appropriate amount of time, researching herbs and supplements, exercising (carefully because I could barely see) and drinking more water more regularly. By August, my vision started to return. By April 2019 (a year later) I had enough of my vision back that I was able to drive myself to the last few eye appointments in Cincinnati. Today, my vision is almost completely normal in my left eye, and my right eye has a weird “fuzziness” to it along with a dead spot or blind spot just to the right and up from center.

I still don’t know what caused this. No one knows what caused this. I really want to find out. I keep worrying that, if this happened suddenly and for no reason, could it come back, and how do I keep that from happening?

If you know any doctors, neurologists, nurse practitioners, nutritionists, herbalists, health food nuts, anyone who’s heard of someone else having unexplained atypical optic neuritis happen seemingly out of nowhere, please help me get in touch with them.

Note: I keep seeing improvement bit by bit, and it sneaks up on me. In September 2020, Beth Perry was with me the first time I saw the Milky Way since 2018.
