To anyone dealing with hardship or loss or that feeling of failure, I just want to say you are strong! I don’t believe in the universe only giving us what we can handle, because the moment someone says that, I usually feel dismissed, followed by uncontrollable self-doubt. Sometimes in life we really are given more than we can handle, and it’s difficult to remember that’s really ok. It’s when we are put to the test, when we are overwhelmed, that we find out just how strong we can be. Our limits are pushed to the edge of bursting, only to find out we can indeed stretch our minds and thoughts to see that we can – maybe not now, but soon – handle what we are experiencing in this one horrible moment. “We are star stuff,” Carl Sagan said once. I believe that means we are made up of everything around us, but also we are connected to the universe, to each other, to anything and everything that exists, that happens, that has happened, and that will happen. When I think of how simultaneously insignificant I feel yet how connected to all my friends and family I am by that single thought, that feeling of failure doesn’t feel so out of control. I can feel it, own it, and move on knowing that it’s only temporary.

The sun shall always rise upon a new day and there shall always be a rose garden within me. Yes, there is a part of me that is broken, but my broken soil gives way to my wild roses.
