If someone says a trans woman is “a man pretending to be a woman,” I hate to break it to them…. We’re all pretending to be a version of a gender that societal norms have told us are standard for that gender. And, surprise, they constantly change anyway. (Don’t believe me? Research the history of the color pink).
Life is hard enough without people making it harder when someone doesn’t fit some made up standard. You’d be surprised (or maybe not) how many people have lived through this and learned to hide themselves instead of find ways to be authentic. It’s sad and takes so much strength to overcome.
Being authentically yourself is the hardest challenge, but it’s also the most rewarding. For some reason, others feel the need to pass judgment when that beautiful, finally-unlocked level of authenticity is reached. Don’t let these people get you down! Friends, I see you and your beautiful uniqueness, and I celebrate you!
It’s all theater, and we should all be able to live our authentic selves without having to justify it. Leave others alone with this nonsense about pretending. Trans women are women, and trans men are men. Full stop.
