I don’t know why, but I am on Mitch McConnell’s email list. I received this today:
In the words of Jules Winnfield, “well, allow me to retort.”
Below is the email reply I sent back.
Religious freedoms are for the individual who believes them and should NEVER be applied to everyone, regardless of their religion. Each individual is allowed to practice their religion in this country as they see fit, not force it upon others who do not share the same religion. This is especially important in our country, as we are not a theocracy and we do not have only one religion. Because of that, there should be a clear separation of church and state, and by opposing the Equality Act, you are allowing further blurring of this line.
I hope you’ll reconsider and understand that this is not a simple yes/no situation. By opposing the Equality Act, you are elevating Christian beliefs above any others, and that tramples on the First Amendment rights of anyone who is not Christian.
